Tubular Belle
This is a sculpture that was chiseled from a column of Botticelli marble, 22″ high with a diameter of 7″.
My supplier sold me five of these columns. A customer had ordered the columns with a five inch core on one end, for ashtrays. The client never picked them up. The sale had gone up in smoke. Hahahaha.
I bought all five and still have three columns remaining to be sculpted. I am not a fan of starting with such a geometric form that gives no outwardly suggestions as to what might be hidden in the stone, but I find it a challenge. As is my habit, I try to maintain the largest dimensions in width, height, and length.. and within those constrains that i set for myself i want to show some expression and movement. I gave her a twist at the hips and placed one arm behind.
The base is the bottom of the column. This sculpture has been in the garden year round for the last three years.
This piece was all hand chiseled
